My best friend of almost a decade's time has gotten in touch with me for the first time in months. She is dying slowly, incurably, inevitably, and painfully, and there is nothing I can do.

Thank you. I think I'll be OK right now, but I might just be emotionally numb from all the other shit that's going on. I may be holding myself together out of sheer willpower, because I Cannot Afford to go to pieces right now.
