So the tree that has been in front of my parents' house for as long as I can remember fell over yesterday, crushing the car some family friends had rented and tearing the Alfa's roof a little. Virtually everyone's first reaction was "Oh, shit!" and shortly afterward "gee, it's a pity it didn't hit the Alfa instead".
While I say crushed, really the roof panel and front windshield is caved in but the A pillars on either side are perfectly intact and it is actually possible to open the door with no difficulty. The car also nearly sheared the part of the tree that hit it off. Insurance is paying for things etc. etc. and so it is all working out okay.
The main disturbing things are that I frequently parked my car under that tree, and that it's not immediately obvious why it decided to fall down.
Pictures whenever I get around to developing them.
