Touristy stuff

Sep. 4th, 2004 07:32 pm
I went to visit Ft. Point today. That was actually quite interesting; the fort is parked directly underneath the Golden Gate Bridge, and has a bunch of interesting architectural decisions inside; I found myself wishing I had a 4x5 instead of my Bronica, but made do (pretty well, I hope!). The barracks were interesting for one reason; all the doorways are lined up, for maybe a hundred feet or so. I thought I was looking in a mirror at first, until I saw people four or five doorways down. The fort and the views from the top were worth about two and a half rolls to me, I see.

If you decide to go, don't take the 101. I was not really prepared for it to turn into surface streets through the middle of some rather busy parts of SF, and while I can't really fault the signing I got confused a couple of times. I recommend taking 101->380->280->1 instead, and the reverse for going home, because while the 1 also goes through SF, it isn't as bad and is very obvious as a road.

I was intending to visit more than just Ft. Point, but I liked spending time there, and my meter started getting flakey again (also hard to read and unreliable at low light levels, like, say, the inside of an unlit fort). I tried to go to a couple of camera stores to get a new one, but predictably they were closed.

Tomorrow: Big Basin. I hope.
