So today I went with [livejournal.com profile] sporechan and [livejournal.com profile] layah and a few others to have Mongolian barbeque in Los Angeles. Afterward, they introduced me to what people in Camarillo do when they're bored late at night; they go to the liquor store, buy several blocks of ice, and then go ice blocking, where you put a towel on the block of ice (so your butt doesn't get soaked) and then ride it down a hill. Apparently this is naughty because kids make lots of noise when they do this, and so you have to do it in the dark and avoid people.

Ice blocking turns out to be sort of like the tobogganing that I used to do as a kid, adjusted for the fact that you're in the middle of the fucking desert. That, a roll & a half of film, and numerous silly games later, I headed home. While I admit it was fun, it strikes me as similar to cow-tipping; it is the thing you do when there isn't anything else to do.

That said after spending time with them I feel a lot better than I have been for a while. I know it's only temporary, but so be it.

So I was playing around with my reversing ring, and I noticed something interesting; apparently light from LCDs is polarized. Evidence:

Polarizer turned one way

Polarizer turned the other way

This isn't as noticable on real closeups, apparently; I did a couple pixel level macro shots where the polarizer didn't seem to do anything.

Somebody converted a bunch of old video game fonts over to TrueType. Very cool--I, of course, had to have Return of Ganon and Manaspace.
